Thaw Frozen Tails In The Refrigerator/Cold Water

For the best experience, you should thaw frozen tails if you've purchased frozen lobster tails instead of fresh ones. Before cooking we can defrost the tail by putting it in the refrigerator for 8 to 10 hours, this will have us fully defrost it and prevent any sticking between the meat and the shell. Or if you do not have time to thaw the tail by the fridge, you can use cold water instead, this way only takes 30 minutes.

Use Cool Water To Rinse The Tails

Put the tails under the tap with your hands or tongs, and try to rinse all the tails. After the tail has been cleaned, you can dry it with a paper towel or let it air dry before you cut it. This helps to prevent any unclean substances on the lobster tails, because lobster lives in the bottom of the sea, it will contain some debris that will contaminate your food.

Cut The Lobster Tails

Before cooking, you should use a knife or shears to cut the lobster tails along the middle. Try to cut all from the back to the fin of the shells and avoid meat. If you use shears, try to pull up on the shell, that will help you to avoid cutting the meat. This is an essential step because the meat will not break apart during the boiling.

Note: Kitchen shears are the better choice, because the knife has to face upward to cut the shell.

Try To Pull Apart The Tail Along The Incision

The incision along the tails allows you to easily break apart the shell. But beware that keep the meat inside the shell for boiling and serving.

Boiled Lobster Tails

Use a large pot filled with water (fill ⅔ of the pot) to boil the lobster tail. The size of the pot will depend on the number of tails you plan to cook. Bring the water to a rolling boil, set the heat to high in order to reach the fast-paced boil. Then you put the tails into the pot, ensuring that the water can submerge the tails. After turning the burner down to medium, that will help the tails cook all the way through before separating from the shell.

Use Butter To Increase The Taste

One of the most classic choices for enhancing the flavor of lobster tails is served with the melted butter - one of the best lobster spices, either on the side or already melted on the tail. Use a basting brush or fork to spread the butter around the top of each tail. Besides, using melted butter, you can choose clarified butter which is melted butter strained through cheesecloth or scraped for excess fats. This is a common dipping sauce to use with seafood like lobster.

Squeeze Lemon On The Meat

Lemon is an extra ingredient to boost the flavor of the tails which adds a pleasant acidic taste to the creamy lobster meat. If you want to serve lemon with lobster tails, you can choose to squeeze it over the tails or cut a slice for your guests to use by themself.
